Big Bones Butterscotch Jones Mysteries Book 2 edition by Melanie Jackson Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks

The second Butterscotch Jones cozy is just as much fun as the first with its oddball characters, its savvy heroine, and its small Canadian town. This time around, a local has found what he claims is a Sasquatch cemetery--with the skeleton of a huge hominid. The finder bragged about his find to outsiders and now an anthropologist is coming to town. Since at least half the town is in hiding from their past, the last thing they want is publicity from Bigfoot hunters and tabloid reporters--who will surely follow once the story gets out.

Even worse for the town, the crashed plane from the last book has left one last danger for the locals--a black box that the residents kept until they could decide what to do with it.

As if the town didn't have enough problems with the bigfoot brouhaha, a man from a mysterious government agency arrives looking for the black box. Then a couple of the outsiders turn up dead with strange slash marks on their bodies. Are they victims of an actual Bigfoot, an angry bear, or a half-mad local who just doesn't like strangers in his town?

None of these calamities can stop the romance between Butterscotch and her Mountie from progressing. Needless to say, she figures out a way to keep her town a haven for herself and her friends while dealing with multiple murders.

Funny, mysterious, and charming, this second entry into the series gives an entertaining read.

Big Bones Butterscotch Jones Mysteries Book 2 edition by Melanie Jackson Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

Such a departure from most of my reading. Very entertaining and enjoyable. Each of her series of Butterscotch has a bit of a new and different twist.
After having read the first book "Due North" on my kindle, I was hooked! "Big Bones" continues a saga that is delightful! Wonderful characters combined with a storyline that is a little "out there"creates a fun read. I pray that there will be many more Butterscotch Jones books in the future.
I think these books have the potential to be good books, but for the price they are really short little episodes. It would take three or four of them to make a book. Sometimes you like the story and then it turns into a silly keystone cops kind of thing. So if you are desperate for something to read as I sometimes am, then I would give this an "OK but not Great".
I really enjoyed book 1 -- Due North--though I thought it was a little short. Book two--Big Bones--really should have been part of book 1. It was also too short on its own and it was a continuation of the first story. Don't know why the author split it into two separate books. Since they were both 3.00 each then it could have been 6 for one book and been worth it. But it was very good and entertaining and I'd read a book 3 if it came out.
Quirky characters, town obsessed with big foot, small place in Canadian, the people have secrets. The story is short, but good
This is #2 in Jackson's newest series, Butterscotch Jones. If you haven't read the first, Due North, you might be a little lost.

There is a lot to enjoy quirky characters, original setting, good language, understated humor, and a really interesting perspective. You'll blow through this, as it is only novella length. (There is also a short story attached, after the squirrel recipe (not kidding), that is barely a chapter in length). Everything I've read by Jackson is equally short, but she comes out with a new entry every couple of months.

You'll have a good time.
I enjoyed both of the Butterscotch Jones mysteries very much. Quirky characters, great setting, sympathetic narrator, and fun to read. But this second one is not a standalone. She did not introduce the characters, nor the situation. She assumes that you have read the first book and remembered it. It had been a little over a month since I read the first one and I needed to go back and reread it to refresh myself. This was very short and did not wrap up the situation so I want book number 3 right away. I would have rated the combination of book 2 and forthcoming book 3 as 5 stars because I enjoyed it so much. As a standalone it's between 3 and 4 stars. (My guess is that this is the equivalent of 100 pages long.)

It reminds me of the Northern Exposure tv show with the isolated town in the north (Canada in this case)with characters with their own internal logic that doesn't conform to anyone else's logic. If you liked that show, you'll like these books.

Quirky and fun. But not full-length novels. Read them thinking of them as episodes of a longer book and you'll be happy.
